Happiness

Happiness is always a by-product. It is probably a matter of temperament, and for anything I know it may be glandular. But it is not something that can be demanded from life, and if you are not happy you had better stop worrying about it and see what treasures you can pluck from your own brand of unhappiness.

Making your lunch can make your mortgage payment

(Opens new window)
I won’t bore you with a detailed breakdown of mathematical wizardry — the spreadsheet below, based on a 241-day work year, summarizes it. (241 days being what’s left once we subtract weekends, two weeks’ vacation, and statutory holidays from 365.) Let’s have a look:
Morning coffee, Tim Horton’s Bologna and cheese sandwich plus small side salad Afternoon coffee, Tim Horton’s Snack  Total
Cost per day $1.50 $8 $1.50 $2 $13
Cost per month $33 $176 $33 $44 $286
Cost per year $361.50 $1,928 $361.50 $482 $3,133
Adjust for your own preferences, but the prices above are based on a typical day’s purchases.

Now let’s look at the cost to brown-bag the same food:
Coffee beans, unground Whole wheat bread Meat, veggies, sandwich stuffing Cookies/fruit Total
Cost per day $0.47 $0.37 $4.76 $0.80 $6.41
Cost per month $9.95 $7.85 $100.00 $16.80 $134.60
Cost per year $119.40 $90.07 $1,147.62 $192.80 $1,549.89
Doing the math for your own lunch gets a little more complicated. Let’s say a big cup of coffee weighs in at 10 grams of ground beans. You’ve got 454 grams in a pound of coffee, so there’s a cup a day for 45 days. Divide in half and you have a little more than two cups a day for the working month. Perfect

Law of the Garbage Truck - story

Law of the Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.

We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined
your car and sent us to the hospital!'

This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call,

'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.

As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally.

Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.
Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets,

so ... Love the people who treat you right.

Pray for the ones who don't.

Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

Have a blessed,garbage-free day!

Trip to Ashcroft

Well it started as a decent day in Kamloops and turned to a drizzle by Lack Le Juen. But by the time I hit Logan's Lake the snow was coming down pretty good. Highland Valley Copper was close to a white out and it reversed back in to semi frozen rain by the time I got to Ashcroft. I took a cool picture though coming down with my Milestone and prozoom 5x camera using the solarize filter. Take a look

A really cool scene

This is a really cool picture that was a "you had to be there" moment. It was a mother cow who just gave birth to a just new born calf must have been moments before we drove by on our way to Lillooet, just outside Cache Creek. A bald eagle had flown in to eat the placenta I think, and then 3 younger eagles came in to dig in as well, so mom was protecting the calf from the eagles. Then we pulled up and the look she gave us, she was mad. But it all made for this nice picture, the perfect shot was about 2 minutes before.

Lillooet

Well I took a few really cool pictures I lillooet, but blogaway will only let me post one picture at a time, so I will post a couple of new blogs just to show them

more lillooet

Just another picture of lillooet on my milestone

Lillooet

Well I took a few really cool pictures I lillooet, but blogaway will only let me post one picture at a time, so I will post a couple of new blogs just to show them. I am doing this from my milestone. A picture of the old bridge

Another crazy weather day

As I look out my window it is snowhailing out pretty hard, the ground was green only minutes ago, and now its whit. The Temperature is 6c and was nice. So it was like spring for most of the winter and now that its spring, it will be winter. It must be very windy out because the direction of the snow changes every couple of minutes. Oh well. off to Lillooet for sure today, maybe I will find some jade and I will take some pictures to post later.

The other picture

Just putting the other Sun Peaks picture

Sun Peaks

Well I made it, only 0 degrees today so the snow is icey and hard right now and I don't really see anyone on the hill but everything except the Burfield is running. Well maybe they will get fresh snow for their final weekend. Actually I am really amazed Sun Peaks has lasted this long seeing as even Whitecroft has not seen snow in months. I still think it is so cool that android phones makes doing things like this so easy. I am going to include two pictures in this blog. One of Mt Morrisey then the big hills
-2c but the sun is shining. Heading up to Sun Peaks, but then who knows what it is the start of a new month. New adventures, and new experiences. I will give a Snow report when I get up there from my cool Android Milestone, and I will include a pic or 2. Have a great day

Another nice day

Well the weather was great today, I had to go to Merritt, but that was fine, and I am surprised how little snow is left after that last dump. As much as I am ready for summer, if we don't get more moisture in the ground soon we wont be allowed out to play, and we love to dirtbike, and camp. So I guess I am praying for rain. i am going to see if I can find a temperature gadget for this page...

Ok.. wrong direction..

my phone told me to go to lillooet, but after checking my paperwork it said I was already there, so ill go the other direction to the mountians. On the way I saw a really cool cloud formation so ill try to attach a photo I took with my android milestone. Who knows maybe I'll even give a ski report

Today Monday march 29, 2010.. all day I would say

Anyway, I figured out how to put my twitter posts on my blog from this cool place, http://www.blogspottutorial.com/2009/01/how-to-install-twitter-widget-in.html, so I am sure I will be reading more stuff from there. So for now I will just put my quotes on my twitter page and they magically show up here, cool. The refereeing clinic went really well yesterday, 5hours long, but I passed, and to think I only did this to learn what all the calls and rules are, I don't want to ref, too much running in lacrosse. But it was good. Saw lots of the kids I have coached there getting their certification, seems to be decent money in it as well. Alright so today I am off to Lillooet and I will try to add some photos from  my android Milestone phone in the places that I get cell coverage. Its a  really nice drive, but a little damp out there today.. later

What to do today...

Well I know I am going to a refereeing clinic for lacrosse, just so I know what those crazy ref's are saying to me on the floor.. Should be fun, but its so nice out I should be dirtbiking.

Repo Men

Ok, I wont write or blog about everything I do, but I just wanted to say I saw Repo Men and after all the bad review (22% on rotten apples) I was expecting a bad movie> I am happy to say it was a pretty good movie and I would recommend it. It does have some gory and maybe violent parts, but it was not over the top and I think well placed and done. A pretty good twist at the end as well. Off to make dinner..

Fun thing I did today...

Lets see.. ohm yeah I coach minor lacrosse, peewee division, and today I was told I get the "A" team. Which is cool and I have coached novice/peewee for three years now but I am usually the "fun" coach and with the A team its a little more serious. So this will be interesting. We picked the teams today and first practice will be Tuesday. Well that's that part, other that that I did some house cleaning grocery shopping bought some socks for the kid and I. Tried to find a hoodie for practices but no body had anything I ilked. Now I am thinking of going to a movie, not sure if I want to see Avatar again, exellent movie, Alice in Wonderland or I am leaning towards Report Men, but such bad reviews. Guess ill figure it out soon.

Well this is my first blog

This is something new for me, I will probably mostly ramble on about things here, electronics I like, have or play with. Books I read Things I do, not sure which direction I will go with this yet, but it looks like fun. Mostly at the moment I found a cool app on my Telus Motorola Milestone that lets me blog so I will try it while on the road. I do some travelling throughout the interior of BC and see some neat things. So lets see what happens shall we?
